A red lotus is the flower of love, compassion, passion, and all other qualities of the heart. In Buddhism, it is the flower of Avalokiteshvara, the Buddha of compassion.

Each RLT bag is hand-selected in by Sarah Walatka. Sarah worked as an editorial and celebrity fashion stylist in New York City, dressing celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Martha Stewart, Cassie, Brandy, Adriana Lima, and Mary J. Blige. Her fashion editorial contributions include O, Martha Stewart Living, Jane, Lulla, and Allure magazines. In the fall of 2008 Sarah moved to Thailand and while on a trip to Chiang Mai discovered the fabulous handicrafts made by the local village's Hmong tribe women. Drawing on her New York fashion experience and her vegetarian lifestyle, Sarah decided to create a website selling fashion accessories with a conscience, hence the birth of www.redlotusthreads.com.
